Machinery

We are constantly reviewing and updating our machinery and equipment to ensure that it is appropriate for the land that we farm and we have just taken delivery of a second Case Quadtrac 540.

The combination of our experienced and well trained staff using large, efficent and up to date machinery allows us to meet the demands of today's farming and to optimise cost control and timeliness of fieldwork without compromising the quality of work carried out.

We have set out below some of the equipment used by The Conant Farming Company and which is available to farmers and landowners for contract work.

Combine Harvester

We are currently running two Claas Lexion combines, a 780 Terra Trac with 12.27m vario cutterbar and a 760 with 10.5m vario cutterbar. We have found these machines to be very reliable and with outputs of over 50 tonnes per hour in wheat, they meet the need for high output combines without any compromise on quality.

Tractors

Two Case Quadtrac 540 head up our tractor fleet providing the power needed to pull the largest of our cultivation equipment.

John Deere 7530 - rated at 185 hp used for secondary cultivations, fertiliser spreading and haulage.

John Deere 6190 R - rated at 190 hp used for secondary cultivations, fertiliser spreading and haulage.

JD 6190R

John Deere 6215 R - trailed sprayer, corn carting and rolls.

Another 200hp tractor is hired in peak periods to help with heavy cultivations and is used for operating the Vaderstad drill.

Cultivation Equipment

Two 6.2m Gregoire Besson Discordons - Front discs chop and mix, a double row of tines lifts and shatters the soil pan, rear discs turn and level the soil with a rear Emopak roller consolidating to limit evaporation. In practice four cultivation tasks completed in one pass.

Kverneland 8 furrow semi-mounted plough with variable width and a 6 furrow Kuhn Vari-Master 180 reversible plough. Used for ploughing stubbles when needed. The variable width system allows high work rates whatever the land type.

Vaderstad Carrier Press and Tines 6.5m

Flat Liner sub-soiler double trailer packer 4m x 2

Drilling

1 x 8m Vaderstad Rapid and 1 x 8m Vaderstad Rapid Combination with fertiliser placement. Capable of drilling 200 acres per day between them.

Excellent seed drills that can be used for direct drilling, min-till drilling and drilling into ploughed land. Accurate seed placement and outputs of up to 200 acres a day mean the crucial timeliness of getting crops established at the right time are always met.

Spraying

We are operating a Challenger RoGator 655C, 243 hp with a 36m boom and a 6,000 litre tank, backed up by a Chafer Sentry 5000 trail sprayer, with a 36m boom and a 5,000 litre tank.

Trailers

Bailey Trailers, 16t x 3
Marston Trailer 14t

Miscellaneous Equipment

We have additional equipment including the following:

4.2m DD Press
12m Twose Rolls - Hydraulic Folding Rolls, used to consolidate seed beds after drilling leaving a level surface for sprays and fertiliser to be applied to.

With this machinery fleet we feel that we can cater for most soil types and weather conditions, everything has been carefully selected to balance labour and cost without compromising the quality of any operation.

Conant Farming can carry out as much or as little work on farms as landowners would like us to do for them.
